Wied-Scala

The Wied-Scala at Südstraße 1 in Neitersen opened on 9 June 1956 with "Weg ohne Umkehr". The hall then held 270 seats, with an upholstered balcony and a ceiling more than 5 m high. The Hassel family ran the cinema for 30 years until it closed in 1985. In 1988 Uli Hüsch, Karin Leicher and Jörg Deimling reopened it as a Programmkino with a café. Since 1989 the federal government and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate have given its annual programme awards every year. Today the hall has 72 seats, and there is an open-air area with 250 more. Alongside current films it shows live opera and ballet relays, readings and concerts. Once a month the Film-Gold series serves coffee and cake on a Wednesday at 3 pm, followed by the film at 3.30. The house is a member of the AG Kino / Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater. A support association, KulturKino Neitersen e.V., was founded in July 2024.
