Studiokino Magdeburg

The Studiokino on Moritzplatz in Magdeburg's Neustadt is an arthouse cinema in a former assembly house whose origins go back to around 1820. Its galleried hall, once used for dances, was converted for film screenings in 1925/26. From 1945 the building ran as the Marktschlösschen Kino, and in 1976 it was modernised and reopened as the Klubkino Studiokino. After privatisation in 1991 it belonged to Ufa Theater AG, whose withdrawal a few years later threatened closure. In 1997 a private initiative took it over. Every year the house wins awards from the BKM and the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) for its annual programme. Renovation of the historic building began in early 2020 with help from the city of Magdeburg and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Original-language prints run as separate screenings marked OmU. Tickets are sold at the box office and can be reserved by e-mail up to four hours before the show, or by phone. Every seat costs 9.50 EUR, 7.50 EUR reduced, with free seating. The house is also home to the Filmkunst e.V., founded in 2012.
