The arthouse cinema in the Kulturhaus Alter Schlachthof has been running since 1994, on the grounds of the town slaughterhouse that closed in 1989. It plays daily in one hall with 89 seats and a 6-metre-wide screen. The focus is European and German arthouse, with a high share of documentaries. There are no ads, and evening shows open with a short film chosen to fit the feature. Some films get their own evenings in the original with German subtitles. The front row has reclining backrests and footstools at no extra charge. There is also a KinderKino for children, funded by the Filmstiftung NRW, and the ABSPANN Kino-Café.Bar.
