Saalbaukino

The Saalbaukino stands at Lindenstraße 71, where Vöglers Lichtspielhaus opened in 1914. Georg-Wilhelm Vögler took it over in 1927 as the Saalbaulichtspiele, with room for 415 chairs in a hall that was also used for dances. Incendiary bombs destroyed the cinema in 1943, and it was rebuilt in 1954. Today it is run by volunteers of the KUK Kino und Kultur eG, a cooperative founded in 2014, with support from the Förderverein Kommunales Kino e.V. It reopened on 6 March 2015 after the switch to digital projection. The programme covers current releases, films for children and classics from the Best of Cinema series, with concerts and talks in between. A mobile ramp is available for wheelchair users; mention it when you reserve if you can.
