Neue Schauburg

The Neue Schauburg on the market square in Northeim has two screens. On 27 January 1923 the bandmaster Fritz Krüger opened the Northeimer Lichtspiele, with 165 seats, in the hall of his inn "Zur Altdeutschen". On 21 October 1936 the enlarged house reopened as the Schauburg with 500 seats. The main auditorium still has a stage with a fly loft and an orchestra pit, the entrance on the market square is a listed monument, and the box-office counter in the foyer dates from the 1950s. The stalls seat 181. The small screen, North.Licht, was added in 2002 and has 32 seats. Both screens use Barco digital projectors, show 3D as well, and have Dolby 5.1 sound. Torben Scheller reopened the cinema under its present name in 1997, and Marius Becker and Wolfgang Würker have run it since 1 January 2025. The series Der Besondere Film usually runs on Tuesdays at 19:30. The foyer and both auditoriums are step-free, the toilets in the basement are not.
