Lichtspielhaus Riedlingen

The Lichtspielhaus on Lange Straße is a Gothic house from the 16th century, with a stepped gable and a small bell tower, and it is a listed building. Until 1745 it was Riedlingen's slaughterhouse, and possibly the butchers' guild hall. After that it stored the town scales and the fire pumps. Around 1800 a civic theatre society played in the house, and in 1840 it was registered as the Stadttheater. Films were shown here before the Second World War, and in 1946 the town's first Lichtspielhaus opened. It stayed a cinema without a break, as an arthouse cinema from 1997, until Rainer Suhm gave it up in December 2001. Today Jürgen Matzner runs it. The cinema hall has 130 seats and, with its sound and lighting rig, doubles as a stage for live events, and there is a café with a bar and 35 seats. The hall can be hired for private parties and company events.
