The Kulturfabrik Meda in Mittelherwigsdorf near Zittau sits on the Zittau-Dresden railway line, about a five-minute walk from the station. The Zittau merchant Hermann Schnarrenberger built it in 1907 as an egg noodle and macaroni factory. Today it is a community arts centre, and its association, Kulturfabrik Meda e.V., runs the cinema. Films mostly screen on Fridays and Saturdays at 19:30, with a CineMatinee at 10:30 on some Sundays. The pub in the building serves a small menu from 18:00 on film nights. In 2023 the cinema received the first special prize for ecological sustainability awarded by the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, worth 5,000 euros. Among other things the jury cited the insulated clay walls with built-in heating and the solar collectors.
