Am Büchelter Hof 9, 51373 Leverkusen
The Kommunales Kino of the VHS Leverkusen, known as KoKi, plays in the Filmstudio of the Forum Leverkusen at Am Büchelter Hof 9. It was founded in 1969 with a remit of cultural education in film art and media studies. For some years it was the only cinema in the city centre, until the Kinopolis opened in the early 2000s. Projection is digital 4K with Dolby Digital 5.1, and the analogue equipment is still available. The programme is organised into themed strands, often with partners such as the Filmclub Leverkusen or the Deutsch-Französische Gesellschaft, and films frequently run in the original with subtitles. Filmmakers regularly come for a talk. School and children's cinema is a focus, for instance the Schulkinowochen NRW and the Kinderfilm des Monats. The KoKi is a partner cinema of the Scala in Opladen and belongs to the Europa Cinemas network. A single ticket costs 6 euros, a ten-visit card 50 euros, the children's film 4 euros. The cinema has four wheelchair spaces.
