The Kino im Deutschen Haus sits on Süderstraße at the head of Meldorf's pedestrian zone, about two minutes on foot from the Marktplatz by the cathedral. It was one of the first cinemas to open in Dithmarschen. In 1927 it was still showing a black-and-white silent film on 35 mm, accompanied by a pianist. Since 11 November 2011 the cinema has projected digitally in 2K, with sound through a Dolby CP 750 and a JBL 7.1 system. In July 2021 it added an NEC 1201L laser projector and a Depth-Q 3D system, which lets some animated and fantasy films run in HFR. The programme ranges from Hollywood 3D films to the Meldorfer Arthaus-Hit(s) series of German and international art-house cinema. The cinema won the Kinopreis Schleswig-Holstein in 2009, every year from 2011 to 2020, and in 2023 and 2024. Its owner is Bertram Herwig.
