Harsefelder Lichtspiele

The Harsefelder Lichtspiele are part of the Kino-Hotel on Marktstraße 19, with a hotel and a restaurant under the same roof. Friedrich Meyer and his wife Minna showed the first films here in 1928, still silent then. In the 1990s Marga Engelmann turned it into an arthouse cinema with themed series. In 2002 Christina Weiß, the federal government's commissioner for culture and media, gave the programme an award. Her son Klaus Martin Engelmann has run the house since 2016. The hall was restored over 6.5 months, with seat rows from Norway and a gold-coloured curtain, and reopened on 1 July 2021. The old fittings have been on display at the Freilichtmuseum am Kiekeberg since. Drinks and snacks are brought to your seat, even during the film. Regular dates are Curry-Kino on Tuesdays and Steak & Movie on Fridays (food from 17:30, film at 19:30), a film breakfast on Sundays and the Kuchenkino on the first Wednesday of the month. Wheelchair users get in free.
