Poststraße 36, 71032 Böblingen
The Filmzentrum Bären on Poststraße was founded in 1914 and, with the Metropol am Postplatz, makes up the Böblinger Kinos. It has eight screens, Bären 1 to 8. The largest is Bären 2 with 206 seats, originally the Bären-Lichtspiele of 1953, renovated in 2013 and built to THX standard. Bären 6 is the Filmpalast of 1928, which burned down in the Second World War, was rebuilt and modernised in 2021; it kept its cloud curtain. The Bärensaal, now Bären 8 with 52 premium seats, is where films were first shown in Böblingen more than 100 years ago. Since autumn 2014 the house has shown the Metropolitan Opera's live broadcasts from New York, with German subtitles. In summer the permanent open-air cinema by the Oberer See runs, entered through the Filmzentrum.
