Föhr's island cinema, also called the Inselkino, sits in the former ballroom of the Kurhaus Hotel on the Sandwall in Wyk. The hotel was built in 1913, and films have been shown there since 1981. At first the hall was leased out and furnished with tables and chairs rather than fixed cinema seating. After the hotel was rebuilt in 1994/95, the decision was made to run the cinema in-house from 1995. The large hall got fixed seating, with care taken to keep its original charm, and a second, smaller hall was added. Today Kino 1 has 158 seats and Kino 2 has 72. Projection stayed analogue until 2010, with the reels delivered by plane in large aluminium cases. Since then both halls have been digital and can show 3D, and films arrive on hard drives by post. The programme mixes current hits and classics. It is open daily from 2pm to 9pm, from mid-March to early November and over Christmas. It is a Cinfinity partner cinema.
