Templergraben 55, 52056 Aachen
The Filmstudio an der RWTH Aachen is the city's university cinema, a registered association run by student volunteers. It grew out of the student union (AStA) on 16 May 1956. Films play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8.15pm in Aula 1 of the RWTH main building on Templergraben. When the Aula is taken, screenings move to the large blue lecture hall in the Audimax. Admission is 3.50 euros, or 2.50 euros with a club card, and you do not have to be a student. Online presale opens two weeks before each date, but half the tickets are held back for the box office, which opens at 7.15pm. Since 2014 a Christie 4K projector has lit a 15-metre screen. An Ernemann 15 for 35mm and 16mm film is still part of the equipment. The programme mixes current films and classics, and every title is marked as German, original version or subtitled. A short film has preceded every screening since 1994. Every summer semester since 2008 the Rocky Horror Picture Show runs in the original, with the team acting out selected scenes live on stage.
