St. Petersburger Straße 24a, 01069 Dresden
The Kristallpalast on St. Petersburger Straße carries a name that reaches back to a legendary pre-war Dresden entertainment venue, now reborn in a striking deconstructivist building designed by the Viennese firm Coop Himmelb(l)au and opened in 1998. Its eight screening halls spread across five floors, offering nearly twenty-seven hundred seats in an architectural shell whose angular glass facades have become a landmark of reunified Dresden. Taken over by the Cineplex group in early 2025, the cinema continues a tradition of bringing large-scale film exhibition to the Saxon capital. Alongside the Rundkino a few hundred metres away, it gives Dresden a pair of architecturally ambitious cinemas that few German cities can match.
