The Casino first opened as a cinema in 1953. After seven years standing empty it was gutted and renovated, reopening in October 2004 as the Filmtheater und Café Casino with two halls for films away from the mainstream. A third hall, the Salon, followed in October 2014 for the tenth anniversary, with 24 armchairs and, at the last evening show, drinks served at the seat. The programme leans on German and European films and recurring strands, one of them a series shown in the original with subtitles, and an attached café keeps a restored Sarotti counter.
