Capitol Kino Witzenhausen

The Capitol opened on 12 February 1927 as Witzenhausen's first cinema, built on the foundations of a burnt-down mill and seating more than 500 at the time. The former balcony is now a second screen. The main hall has about 125 seats, the air-conditioned Studio-Kino 39. After the death of its long-time operator Ralf Schuhmacher in 2019, his heirs have kept the arthouse cinema going and put solar panels on the roof of the main hall. The state of Hesse has twice given the Capitol its prize for sustainable cinema. The programme also includes the Witzenhäuser Filmgespräch, a seniors' screening with coffee and cake, and subtitled originals, plus concerts and theatre on the stage.
