Kölner Straße 24, 50171 Kerpen
The Capitol Theater stands on Kölner Straße in Kerpen. The grandparents of the current owner, Bernd Schmitz, began building it in 1949, and the first film ran in 1950 in what was then a single auditorium. Today the cinema is divided into two. It was leased out from 1978 to 2004, and since then Bernd Schmitz has run the family business himself. In 2016 the Capitol received the Kinoprogrammpreis NRW for the tenth time, and further awards followed in 2017 and 2020.
