The Caligari-Kino is the cinema of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg on the Akademiehof in Ludwigsburg, on the southern extension of the pedestrian zone. By day it is the students' screening room; in the evening KinoKult e.V. runs it as a public arthouse cinema. The building was a school gym and was converted into a cinema in 1992. Its single air-conditioned auditorium seats 160 in raked rows, and the screen measures 8 by 3.5 metres. Projection is digital DLP-Cinema to DCI specification in 4K, including 48 frames per second and 3D (Christie projector, Doremi server, XpanD 3D), plus 35mm and 16mm film on a Kinoton FP38. Sound is Dolby Atmos through 52 JBL auditorium speakers. The programme is fiction and documentary films from around the world, many of them from international festivals. In 2010 the house won the prize for the best film programme in Baden-Württemberg. Wheelchair spaces are beside rows 1 and 2, reachable from outside without a step, and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet. The Caligari belongs to the AG Kino-Gilde and Europa Cinemas.
