Terminator 2 returns to German cinemas on 27 August

Fathom Entertainment's announcement gives 27 August for Germany, ahead of the United States, Italy and Poland on 28 August, France on 2 September and the United Kingdom on 4 September. What is being shown is Studiocanal's 2017 4K restoration together with the 3D conversion made at the same time.

The distributor lists three ways to see it: 4K, RealD 3D and what it calls premium formats. James Cameron, who supervised the conversion, is quoted in the release calling the 3D version the absolute best way to see the film.

What to check before booking

A restoration re-release is exactly the case where the label on the listing decides whether you get what you came for. A 3D show and a 4K show of this film are different presentations, and cinemas will run both. Our format filters separate them.

The other thing to check is the language. A 35-year-old catalogue title in Germany is normally booked dubbed, and original-version screenings of re-releases tend to be single dates rather than a run.

The film first ran in 1991, which is where the anniversary comes from. The restoration and the 3D conversion both date from 2017, so this is not new work, it is a catalogue title being put back into cinemas at a scale that catalogue titles rarely get.

Fathom's ticket on-sale date of 17 July applies to the United States only. Nothing in the announcement says when German cinemas open bookings, and no German cinema had listed a screening at the time of writing.
