Freiluftkino Insel @ Atelier Gardens

Oberlandstraße 26-35, 12099 Berlin

Within the wide grounds of the Atelier Gardens — the redeveloped BUFA film studios on the southern edge of the Tempelhofer Feld — the Freiluftkino Insel offers a carefully curated open-air programme four nights a week from June through September. The venue forms part of a broader ecosystem of working film studios, sustainable architecture, and cultural programming that distinguishes Atelier Gardens from any other open-air location in Berlin. The screen sits in a clearing among the studios' gardens; the audience reaches it via paths that pass through landscaped green spaces. Programming favours arthouse cinema, festival selections, independent documentaries, and shorts, with version labels that lean strongly toward OmU and OmeU. The proximity to functioning film production lends the place an industry-insider quality, while its small scale — roughly two hundred seats — preserves an intimacy that the larger venues cannot match.
