Sommerkino auf der Feinkost

Each summer the team behind the Kinobar Prager Frühling moves part of its programme into the courtyard of the Feinkost site on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. The buildings started out as a brewery in 1852 and became the VEB Leipziger Feinkost cannery in 1952; production stopped in 1992, and a cooperative of craftspeople, traders and artists founded in 2004 now owns the listed complex and fills it with workshops, shops and bars. The Löffelfamilie, the animated neon sign that once advertised the factory and has been a protected monument since 1993, still stands at the entrance on the Karli. Films start after dark, around 21:30 in July and 21:00 in August, on unreserved plastic chairs; the screening area is roofed, so rain seldom cancels an evening. The programme mixes recent arthouse and documentaries with classics, and a good share of it plays in the original language with subtitles.
