Markranstädter Straße 8, 04229 Leipzig
The Schaubühne Lindenfels has run a summer open-air cinema since 1995, and since 2021 it has set up in the courtyard of the Plagwitzer Markthalle on Markranstädter Straße, a few minutes west of the theatre itself. The season runs from late May to early September, Tuesday to Sunday, with the film starting half an hour after nightfall — late in June, noticeably earlier by September. Everything screens in the original language with German or English subtitles: current arthouse releases, documentaries and classics, plus recurring strands such as Pride Pictures through the CSD weeks, Apero Kino on the first Friday of the month, and a music-and-film slot on Sundays. The market hall's café becomes the cinema bar and serves regional, organically certified food. There are no reservations and no roof, so bring a blanket — Leipzig's summer nights cool down quickly.
