Freiluftkino Frankfurt im Polizeipräsidium

Freiluftkino Frankfurt is run by LICHTER Filmkultur e.V., the association behind the LICHTER Filmfest, and reaches its thirteenth season in 2026. It plays in the courtyard of the old police headquarters, entered from Ludwigstraße 18 in the Gallus between the main station and the trade-fair grounds. The neo-baroque block was built in 1911–1914, housed the force until it left in 2002 and has stood largely empty since; the screen goes up against its listed, crumbling facades. The season runs from late June to late August, four or five evenings a week. Nothing is dubbed: foreign-language films play in the original with German subtitles, German ones without, and the 2026 programme mixes festival titles from Korea, Portugal and the US with music films and themed nights. Doors at 19:30, the film starts once it is dark enough after sunset.
