Moritzstraße 6, 65185 Wiesbaden
The Apollo-Center on Moritzstrasse in Wiesbaden has roots reaching back to 1936, when Erich Ewert opened a cinema in the former ballroom of the Hotel Wiesbadener Hof. The Hessian state capital, a spa city of grand Wilhelmine villas and hot springs, has always cultivated an atmosphere of refined leisure, and the Apollo fits naturally into this tradition. Over the decades, the single hall has been divided and expanded into a five-screen centre, but the family operation continues. Wiesbaden's proximity to Frankfurt provides cultural competition, yet the Apollo has endured by serving an audience that prefers its pleasures close to home and close to the Kurhaus.
